It can be confusing to know which “-1-1” number to call when you need assistance, so we hope this graphic will help! We’ve included a few situational examples below.

And remember, if you require urgent medical care, or if you fear for your immediate safety, you should always call 9-1-1.

Note there is also the Vancouver Police Non-Emergency line: (604) 717-3321. Use this number for after-hours noise complaints, a crime that is not currently in progress, or other non-emergency matters requiring police attention.

Brightside welcomes a new addition to the Team

We are privileged to introduce the newest addition to the Brightside team, Susan Moore – our new Director of Community Engagement and Resident Support.

Susan comes to us from the Seniors Come Share Society in Surrey, where she was Executive Director. No stranger to Brightside, Susan has worked alongside our organization for many years through her work at the BC Association of Community Response Networks and the West End Seniors Network. She brings a vast depth of experience in community development and support. In time, Susan looks forward to meeting the many wonderful residents of Brightside.

In an effort to “jump right it”, Susan offered to share this recipe for Spinach Frittata. Quick, healthy, and simple, and most importantly tasty.

Recipe: Spinach Frittata

  1. In a small bowl, whisk eggs and water together. Set aside.

If you don’t have a whisk, you can use a fork.

  2. In a small non-stick skillet (fry pan), heat oil over medium heat.

  3. Add onion and garlic, cook for one to two minutes.

  4. Stir in chopped spinach or Swiss chard and basil, and cook for three to four minutes or until wilted.

  5. Add the egg mixture and cook for three to five minutes or until browned on the bottom but still not completely set on top.

  6. Sprinkle with cheese.

  7. Flip frittata over and cook for one to two minutes until browned and completely set.

  8. Remove from pan and cut in half. Serve with whole wheat or multigrain toast.
