Brightside’s mission is to provide affordable homes to those that otherwise struggle with the demands of market housing, and we envision building toward a future where people of all income levels have a home within a vibrant and healthy community. Seniors, families, and people with disabilities are some of the most significantly impacted by the housing affordability crisis facing renters in Metro Vancouver. The ‘Brightside touch’ is exemplified by our singular focus on the welfare of all our residents and ensuring we are able to go above and beyond to meet the needs of current and future residents in the long-term.

In addition to providing affordable homes for those who need it most, Brightside places important focus on community development that fosters strong social connections and resilience among its residents.

In our future, people of all income levels have a home within a vibrant and healthy community.

In 1952, inspired by the vision and dedication of a small group of people, and with the support of various levels of government, the British Columbia Housing Foundation was incorporated under the Society Act of BC as a non-profit society providing low-cost housing to senior citizens in Vancouver.

Over 70 years later, with the same mandate but much larger community impact, including families and people with disabilities, Brightside is is one of British Columbia’s largest charitable private-sector non-profit affordable housing organizations.

To support Social Justice, we must be intentional in highlighting issues, take action to create equitable opportunity, and actively advocate for our vision.

Brightside is committed to making an impact in the community housing sector, and taking a values approach through organizations and institutions that support resilience, growth, and leadership.

Brightside’s work is driven by a deep commitment to our values – Clarity, Resourcefulness, Progressiveness, Inclusiveness, and Social Justice – and we maintain high expectations when engaging in procurement activity to ensure an equitable and sustainable future. We require all major suppliers and vendors be Living Wage Employers, and give preference to those suppliers and vendors that are values-aligned organizations and focus on environmentally responsible practices. Brightside endeavours to engage suppliers, vendors, and other organizations that are local, committed to community, and represent or are led by members of equity-seeking groups. As part of Brightside’s commitment to a net-zero future, we also seek suppliers and vendors that share our net-zero ambitions, have environmental certification, or provide goods that are made using sustainable materials and/or are made by a carbon-neutral company. Brightside’s commitment to ethical procurement is reflective of our core values, and we aim to ensure every procurement decision represents a net-positive step toward an equitable and sustainable future for all.
