Brightside has the ambitious goal of doubling the number of affordable homes we provide over the next decade. Although Brightside has taken steps to maintain our properties at a high standard, some of them are aging and do not offer accessibility features such as an elevator, often required for seniors aging-in-place. To realize this goal and ensure that we are able to provide more quality, affordable homes for seniors, families, and people with disabilities, we are undertaking a number of redevelopment projects in Vancouver. Sunrise Village: East & West

2924 Venables Street

Originally constructed in 1977, 2924 Venables Street is located in the Hastings-Sunrise neighbourhood of Vancouver. The original building was a three-storey wood frame building with a total of 64 homes, housing exclusively seniors. The proposal is to replace the existing 64 units with 146 units of affordable rental homes for seniors and families.

1425 & 1451 East 12th Avenue – NOW OPEN

Originally constructed in 1962 and 1971, 1425 and 1451 East 12th Avenue are located in the Grandview-Woodland neighbourhood of Vancouver. Both are low-rise wood-frame buildings housing exclusively seniors. The proposal is to replace the original 57 units with 157 units of affordable rental homes for seniors.

The Aster

349 East 6th Avenue – NOW OPEN

In partnership with BC Housing and Wall Financial Corporation (WFC), Brightside is pursuing an opportunity to develop 349 East 6th Avenue, adjacent to our Mount Pleasant Lions Manor building at 325 East 6th Avenue. The proposal is to replace the existing 36 units at 325 East 6th Avenue with approximately 82 units of affordable, secured rental homes for seniors and families at 349 East 6th Avenue to add much needed social housing.

8705 French Street – OPENING SOON

(Formerly 8725 French Street)

8705 French Street is located in the Marpole neighbourhood of Vancouver. Brightside is redeveloping the property to ensure we’re able to meet the needs of current and future residents in the long-term. The proposal is to replace the existing 46 units with 100 units of affordable rental housing for seniors and families.
