Community Engagement Summary Update
As part of Brightside’s redevelopment plan for 8725 French Street (MacLeod Manor), Brightside’s community engagement efforts are designed to give the community an opportunity to provide input on the preliminary plans before submitting a formal rezoning application.
Our thanks to everyone that participated in the community engagement process – participants included members of the community, local businesses and community groups, Brightside residents, and many others.
Feedback has proven to be notably positive, with the majority of respondents indicating the reason for their attendance at the open house was to support the project.
- 100% of respondents indicated that increasing the amount of social housing for both seniors and families in the area is important
- 92% of respondents feel the environmental sustainability of a redevelopment project is important
- Respondents indicated very high degrees of satisfaction with design elements, including vehicle and bicycle parking and balconies
- The most prominent themes among suggestions related to project design, including unit size and layout, amenity space and accessibility features
Comments and feedback collected vis-a-vis the community engagement process will be used to help Brightside ensure the development is the best fit for both the community and for residents as Brightside strives to increase the number of safe and secure affordable homes for those struggling to meet the demands of market housing.
