As we wrap 2020 with our final edition of Brightside Community News, we thank you for your feedback, content, and readership. This series was created for the community, to help you become aware of the support, services, and knowledge we each have to offer to keep one another safe, welcome, and included in the neighbourhoods we live in. On behalf of the newsletter production team, stay safe, stay healthy, and be well. Happy holidays: we wish you and yours a peaceful 2021 to come.

November 2020

As we enter our ninth consecutive month living with COVID-19, many of us may be feeling “pandemic fatigue”. With the winter holiday season quickly approaching, many of us may also be feeling more stressed and uncertain. How do we celebrate? Do we celebrate? In this edition, we provide tips to self-manage this holiday season, as well as resources to mental and emotional support services in the community. How you choose to celebrate the holidays this year, thank you for keeping yourself and others around you safe!

Community Newsletter
October 2020

It takes the work of a community to protect our most vulnerable of neighbours from abuse, neglect, and self-neglect. Awareness is key. Educate yourself on the different types of abuse, neglect, and self-neglect, how to spot the signs, and understand what you can and cannot do if you see or hear something troubling. If you see something, say something. Learn. Volunteer. Look out for each other. Wear purple on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD), which takes place annually on June 15. It’s takes all of us to make our community a safe, secure, and inclusive place to live.

Welcome to the first edition of Brightside Community News! As a result of the success of the COVID-19 briefs from the past several months, we’re expanding the content to include other pieces of important information on community resources. Many thanks to the BC Association of Community Response Networks (BC CRN) for their support: they’ve provided us with the necessary funding to produce monthly editions until the end of 2020.
