The City of Vancouver commenced a three-week Virtual Open House on June 8th for the proposed redevelopment of Brightside Community Homes Foundation’s Alice Saunders House, located at 2924 Venables Street. The Virtual Open House is an opportunity for the public to provide feedback and support for the rezoning application.
Brightside’s proposal would replace the existing 64 homes at Alice Saunders House with 146 units of affordable housing for seniors and families. The proposed redevelopment would provide an opportunity to meet the needs of current and future residents for the long-term. The new building would also represent a considerably smaller carbon footprint as it is planned to be Passive House certified.
Virtual Open House details:
June 8 – June 28, 2020
The Virtual Open House also includes a virtual “3D fly-through” visualization of the proposed new building in lieu of an architectural model.
Providing affordable homes for seniors, families, and people with disabilities is a shift towards positive inclusivity, and would increase the affordable rental housing stock in Vancouver. It also helps retain the diverse social fabric that already exists in the in Hastings Sunrise neighbourhood.
The Virtual Open House will be available online for participants to provide feedback and submit comments to the City until Sunday June 28th, 2020.
