Brightside Community Homes Foundation (“Brightside”) is a private-sector, non-profit organization that owns and manages 26 buildings across the city of Vancouver, providing affordable housing to those who struggle to meet the demands of market housing. OPPORTUNITY

Brightside is currently seeking to fill a full-time, permanent position on our Field team in the role of the Building Services Worker/Cleaner, reporting to the Director of Property Services.

 

MAIN AREAS OF FOCUS

  • To travel between each of our properties to collect incoming documents and/or payments and deliver notices to individual suites and/or buildings;
  • To provide secure, authorized access to suites and/or buildings to third-party contractors and/or service providers, and serve as an on-site liaison;
  • To provide in-suite, post-construction cleaning and sanitization services in preparation for occupancy and/or move-in; and
  • To respond to and address emerging on-site matters and issues, as required.

 

KEY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Post and/or deliver paper notices in the building(s) and/or on the doors of individual suites;
  • Gather repair requests from all buildings twice weekly and submit them via email for logging and coordination of services;
  • Provide resident-centred, courteous and respectful customer service to Brightside residents, third-party contractors, and/or service providers;
  • Provide third party contractor management and ensure approved work is completed as per scope of work;
  • Provide in-suite cleaning and sanitation services prior to occupancy which may include, but is not limited to: vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, wiping/sanitizing surfaces, bathroom and kitchen cleaning, and inspecting for other any potential deficiencies;
  • Provide installation of minor signage using glue, tape and basic hand tools, and complete ad-hoc work orders as assigned to you by the Director, Property Services;
  • Provide suite and/or building access for pest control treatments, as required;
  • Report equipment and/or areas requiring attention or repairs, including fire and security hazards, to the Director, Property Services; and
  • Eliminate safety hazards, where safely possible, and set-up safety barriers.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of one to two (1-2) years’ experience in construction, maintenance, property management, and/or cleaning services
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English – written and verbally
  • Previous experience working with vulnerable populations would be preferred
  • Must be detail-oriented, meticulous, and consistent with cleaning abilities
  • Must be a team player with solid interpersonal skills, committed to teamwork, building relationships, and delivering excellent customer service
  • Must be able to work independently, exercise sound judgement, and manage their own time effectively
  • Must be reasonably physically fit, able to climb stairs, and carry equipment and supplies, as needed
  • Ability to effectively navigate and use a smart phone (for calling, emailing, taking and sending pictures, texting, etc.).

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

A valid BC Driver’s License and a criminal record check for working with vulnerable children and adults is required for this position.

Field Office: Our Field Office is located on the Parkade level of 2950 Euclid Avenue, Vancouver. Each workday, Field team members meet at the Field Office for the morning briefing, to collect assignments, tools, and/or work vehicles, and return at the end of the workday.

Hours of Work: The Field team’s typical hours of work will be 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Thursday, and 8:00 am to 2:30 pm on Fridays, with a 30-minute daily lunch break. Brightside may require some flexibility in scheduling to address deadlines and other issues. The Field team may be required, on occasion, to work outside the typical hours of work. Overtime must be authorized in writing, in advance, and signed off by their Manager within 24 hours unless associated with being “on-call”.

Compensation: Brightside is proud to be a certified Living Wage employer. Salary range for this position is $53,000-59,000 per annum. A competitive extended health, dental and vision package is provided to qualified employees upon hiring. Employer-Matching RRSP program is offered after three (3) months of successful, continuous employment.
