Brightside Community Homes Foundation broke ground on an exciting new development in False Creek on December 5, 2025.
Brightside was joined by provincial Housing Minister Hon. Christine Boyle, Vancouver City Council, Vancouver-Yaletown MLA Hon. Terry Yung, Fire chief and general manager of Vancouver Fire Rescue Services Karen Fry and many other guests. The event was opened with a warm welcome from Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations on their land.
The 95 Nelson Street (formerly 990 Beatty St.) development is a partnership between Brightside Community Homes Foundation, the City of Vancouver, and BC Housing, and will bring 283 net new affordable homes to the False Creek North community of downtown Vancouver. Funded through BC Housing’s Community Housing Fund program, rental rates will be 50% rents-geared-to-income (at or below Housing Income Limits rates), 20% deeply affordable (shelter and PWD rates), and 30% low-end-of-market rates. The project will also be the future home of Firehall #8, and a 44-space childcare facility.
With construction underway, Brightside looks forward to welcoming 283 new families, individuals and seniors to the new building, along with Vancouver Fire Rescue Services and the Vancouver Society of Children’s Centres, in 2029.
