Held on Tuesday, July 24, 2019 at the Croatian Cultural Centre from 5:00 – 7:30 p.m.
Brightside is one of the City’s largest and longest-standing housing societies, owning and managing 26 properties providing homes for over 1,000 residents. Brightside is proposing to redevelop Alice Saunders House to ensure we’re able to meet the needs of current and future residents in the long-term. Although Brightside has taken steps to maintain the property at a high standard, it is aging and does not offer accessibility features such as an elevator, often required for seniors aging in place. It also does not have modern fire safety systems.
The pre-application open house introduced a preliminary proposal to the community and to seek early community input for 1425 and 1451 East 12th Avenue.
Brightside intends to apply to the City of Vancouver to rezone 1425 and 1451 East 12th Avenue. The proposal is to replace the existing 57 units with 10 units of seniors’ below market rental housing. Key City of Vancouver policy relevant to the proposal is the Grandview-Woodland Community Plan.
