OPPORTUNITY
Brightside is currently seeking to fill a full-time, permanent position on our Property Services team in the role of the Mobile Field Technician. This busy and challenging role will join a team responsible for servicing our portfolio of 26 multi-unit residential properties located in Metro Vancouver. This position will report directly to the Director of Property Services.
MAIN AREAS OF FOCUS
- To ensure the general upkeep of assigned portfolio of properties by completing minor repairs and reporting any larger maintenance issues;
- To inspect assigned portfolio of properties on a regular basis; and
- To provide exceptional customer service to our resident community.
KEY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform in-suite repairs and maintenance, as assigned;
- Perform basic repairs to common areas, including interior and exterior of buildings;
- Adhere to strict compliance with the Residential Tenancy Act at all times and particularly when providing notice and/or access to units;
- Ensure safety and security in residential buildings;
- Ensure all lighting is operational, entry phones are functioning, exit doors and lights are in a good state of repair, railings are secured, and ramps are clear;
- Perform basic plumbing (leaks/toilet/sink repair or replacement), electrical, and drywall repairs;
- Perform basic appliance repair (stoves, fridges, range hoods);
- Perform basic door, sliding door, lock, and/or window repair;
- Facilitate in-suite demolition, as required;
- Demonstrate customer service excellence with our residents and conduct field activities in a courteous and respectful manner;
- Communicate with residents regarding work progress;
- Provide authorized building or suite access to contractors, service providers, etc. and supervise their work;
- Document and report pre-and-post maintenance jobs by taking photos and/or notes and emailing it to head office;
- Prepare buildings as required for contractors;
- Salt and clear snow from walkways, as required;
- Participate in on-call rotation one weekend per month, as required;
- Perform other repair duties that might be required from time to time; and
- Assist the Director, Property Services with ad hoc tasks as required.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Good home maintenance skills with basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, or carpentry experience would be considered an asset.
- Must be physically fit to lift 50lbs comfortably and climb multiple flights of stairs, if/when needed.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written English.
- Ability to demonstrate patience, tolerance, diplomacy and exercise tact and good judgement when dealing with a variety of clients of diverse cultural, educational and socio-economic backgrounds and behavioral issues.
- Ability to preserve and respect resident confidentiality.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Good conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
- Be a team player that demonstrates a positive attitude, is personable and courteous in working with all levels of staff and management.
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions.
- Resourceful and able to take responsibility for assigned tasks.
- Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Ability to use various functions on a smart phone (for calling, texting, emailing, and taking/sending photos).
- Integrity and reliability with a track record of ethical conduct are paramount for this role.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Field Office: Within the Collingwood neighbourhood of Vancouver. Each workday, Field team members meet at the Field Office for the morning briefing, to collect assignments, tools, and/or work vehicles, and return at the end of the workday.
Hours of Work: The Field team’s typical hours of work will be based on a 37.5 hour work week; 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Thursday, and 8:00 am to 2:30 pm on Fridays, with a 30-minute daily lunch break. Brightside may require some flexibility in scheduling to address deadlines and other issues.
The Field team may be required, on occasion, to work outside the typical hours of work. Overtime must be authorized in writing, in advance, and signed off by their manager within 24 hours unless associated with being “on-call”. The members of the Field team are expected to participate as part of the “on-call” rotation one weekend per month. The Plumber on staff is the first point of contact for all plumbing issues including after-hours callouts (24/7). A monthly on-call allowance is provided to each Field team member, in addition to overtime pay.

Compensation: Brightside is proud to be a certified Living Wage employer. Salary range for this position is $53,000-59,000 per annum. Our competitive extended health benefits package includes dental and vision care, as well as an employer-matching RRSP program after three months of continuous employment.
