Brightside Community Homes Foundation (“Brightside”) is a private-sector, non-profit organization that owns and manages 26 buildings across the city of Vancouver, providing affordable housing to those who struggle to meet the demands of market housing. Brightside has articulated a goal of doubling the number of affordable homes the organization currently provides over the next 10 years.
Taylor Ryan is pleased to be Partnering with Brightside as they search for a Director of Community Real Estate. As part of the Senior Leadership Team, reporting to the CEO, this role is critical to realizing Brightside’s goal.
Through overseeing multiple redevelopment projects, as well as being on the lookout for strategic partnerships and/or acquisition opportunities, the successful candidate will have the real estate expertise founded on a values-based perspective to lead Brightside into its next wave of growth.
The key accountabilities of this role include but are not limited to: Growing the Brightside housing portfolio through redevelopments, partnerships, and acquisition, leading the redevelopments through construction to occupancy, overseeing external development consultants to ensure development projects remain on time and on budget, developing new partnerships that may yield net new units for Brightside residents, and maintaining existing relationships; providing leadership to the Community Real Estate team through coaching, management, and direction, and; collaborating with the CEO in seeking out funding opportunities, establishing key relationships that will further the strategic goals of the organization negotiating, and acquiring financing via BC Housing, CHMC or private lenders.
You will be knowledgeable and connected to the community housing sector, be forward thinking, able to anticipate the unexpected and problem-solve accordingly and be able to coordinate the volume and complexity of activities associated with a dynamic real estate team with tact, diplomacy and composure. Leadership must be a priority for the successful candidate, with demonstrated leadership experience.
The Director of Community Real Estate will ideally possess a university degree in real estate, finance, urban planning, architecture, engineering, or similar. You will have a broad skill set and 10+ years’ experience in a related field and/or management level position, demonstrate a passion for leading and developing teams, building and maintaining relationships and strong project management experience. You should be interested in assisting equity-seeking communities and those at risk of homelessness, be a self-starter with impeccable administrative, interpersonal, and time management skills, and be a confident communicator, with a desire to serve the community.
