Casa Mia Welcome Page

Frequently Asked Questions

The FAQ below is intended to answer questions specifically about the transition to Brightside Community Homes Foundation as the new owner and property manager of Casa Mia. Additional information can be found in the Resident Handbook, included in this welcome package.

Is my rent going to change?

Your current rental rate will remain unchanged at this time. Rent can/will only be increased once every 12 months and within the yearly rent increase limit, as set by the Residential Tenancy Branch.

How do I pay rent?

Brightside offers a free, convenient Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD) system for payment of rent. You can find an enrollment form for PAD in this welcome package. Brightside will be happy to help you sign up for PAD.

I gave post-dated cheques to the previous landlord. What happens to them?

Any post-dated cheques issued to the previous landlord will be destroyed by the previous landlord. If you wish, you can request stop-payments for existing post-dated cheques with your financial institution.

Will I have to sign a new lease agreement?

No. Your existing lease agreement remains valid as long as you continue to reside in your current suite at Casa Mia. If there are any changes to the occupants of your household, or other significant changes to your tenancy, you may need to update your lease agreement with Brightside to reflect these changes.

Are there any material changes to my lease agreement?

No. Your current lease agreement remains valid.

Am I going to be “renovicted” to facilitate a rent increase?

No. Brightside’s mandate is to provide affordable housing and to ensure rental rates are affordable for the long term. Brightside purchased Casa Mia as part of the Rental Protection Fund program, which exists to protect affordable rental rates in existing purpose-built rental buildings like Casa Mia.

Will Tribe Management continue to be our property manager?

No. Brightside manages all of its own properties with a dedicated Property Services Team. All building operations will be managed by Brightside.

What is Brightside Community Homes Foundation?

Brightside is a non-profit affordable housing society that has been providing affordable rental homes since 1952. We provide affordable rental housing for seniors, families, and people with disabilities in many buildings throughout Vancouver, and now Burnaby.
