Field Support Technician

Full-Time, One-Year Contract (with possibility for extension)

Brightside Community Homes Foundation (“Brightside”) is a private-sector, non-profit organization that owns and manages 26 buildings across the city of Vancouver, providing affordable housing to those who struggle to meet the demands of market housing. In addition to property management, Brightside is committed to building connections within the Brightside communities that include over 1000 residents.

 

OPPORTUNITY

Brightside is currently seeking to fill a full-time, one-year contract position on our Operations team in the role of the Field Support Technician, reporting to the Director, Operations under the supervision of the Field Manager. The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of routine courier, delivery, security, and maintenance duties across Brightside’s portfolio of 26 buildings. The Field Support Technician will also provide secure, authorized access to buildings, suites, and maintenance areas while providing exceptional resident-centred, customer service.

 

MAIN AREAS OF FOCUS

  • Ensures the general upkeep of Brightside’s portfolio and reports larger maintenance issues, as required;
  • Performs internal courier duties which include collection and deliveries across Brightside’s 26 properties and Head Office locations;
  • Provides secure, authorized access to buildings and/or suites to third parties, as required; and
  • Conducts in-suite inspections, prepares reports for submission to Head Office.

 

KEY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Travel across the portfolio and collect Request for Repair Forms, Resident Complaints, and other documentation found in the ‘drop box’ located in the lobby of each building;
  • Travel across the portfolio to post building notices and/or deliver resident-specific correspondence;
  • Provide resident-centred, courteous and respectful customer service to Brightside residents, contractors, and service providers;
  • Provide building and/or suite access to potential occupants, contractors, service providers, etc. as required;
  • Ensure completion of general repairs to common areas including building exterior;
  • Provide access for pest control treatments;
  • Provide installation of minor signage using glue, tape and basic hand tools, and complete ad-hoc work orders as assigned to you by the Field Manager;
  • Conduct pre move-out inspections to evaluate and verify condition of suites before being vacated;
  • Report equipment and/or areas requiring attention or repairs, including fire and security hazards, to the Field Manager; and
  • Eliminate safety hazards, where safely possible, and set-up safety barriers.

The preceding job description is not exhaustive and may change from time to time depending on the needs of the Foundation.

 

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English – written and verbally;
  • Must be reasonably, physically fit and able to climb stairs as many older Brightside buildings do not have elevators;
  • A team player with solid interpersonal skills, committed to building relationships and delivering excellent customer service;
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License and a clean driving record;
  • Excellent time management, organization and problem-solving skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise sound judgement;
  • Adaptable, strong attention to detail, with basic handyman/handywoman skills;
  • Must have ability to use a smart phone effectively (for calling, emailing, taking pictures, texting, etc.); and
  • Previous experience with maintenance, property management and/or working with vulnerable populations would be an asset; willing to train the right incumbent.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • A Brightside-owned vehicle will likely be provided the successful incumbent to carry out their day-to-day duties;
  • This opportunity is a one-year contract with the possibility of extension;
